O.K. This is exciting for us. Really, it is. Lincolnshire has so few really good wedding venues that it’s depressing at the best of times. And this year the closure of one of them and staffing problems at others has left the County really short of venues we can recommend. But now there’s very definitely another one on the scene. Of course, Washingborough Hall is not new to weddings. But in the past it was not only one of those venues we could not recommend, it was one of those venues we felt we could not cover.... [Read the full story]

You’ll notice how few bridal gownshops we’re recommending on the blog. That’s because the choice is of  gown is so essential to a bride’s enjoyment of her day – and to the pictures we are able to give her – that we are even more careful than usual to make recommendations. We actually know of only a handful of shops we feel confident in recommending in the Lincoln/Grimsby/Scunthorpe area. We hope to add the others to the blog over the next few months. Caroline Chamberlain is someone for... [Read the full story]

Silver Spirit Wedding Cars

“How’s Boris today?” we ask as we wait for the bride to finish her preparations. “Couldn’t be better, thanks,” replies Graham. “Harvey’s been a bit offish but he’ll be right as rain for the wedding next weekend.” Graham, I should explain, is the owner of Silver Spirit Wedding Cars. Boris and Harvey aren’t relatives of his, by the way. They’re more important than that. They are two of his prized cars. He has seven in all and swears they each have individual... [Read the full story]

Looking Back to 2009

December 30, 2009 · Leave a Comment

It seems absolutely no time at all since I wrote about what had happened in 2008 and I guess the reason for this just sums up the whole year we been so busy we haven’t had chance to notice the passing of time! From the aquisition of a whole mass of new equipment and technology early on in the year, through the trauma of having an extension built to give us extra storage and another office, on to the most hectic summer for weddings we’ve ever had and then the hectic pre-Christmas rush to complete album orders... [Read the full story]

Videographers

August 12, 2008 · Leave a Comment

People often ask whether they should hire a videographer in addition to their stills photographer. Obviously this is a hugely personal decision but it’s worth bearing in mind the following points: The old proverb ‘Too many cooks spoil the broth’ is never more true than for wedding photography. There is only ever one perfect spot to stand, one perfect angle from which to view an event. If you hire two videographers plus two photographers then there will be inevitable frictions. Each wants to do the best... [Read the full story]

Kirby Blythe

2007 was the year of the nightmare hairdresser for Aurora Studio. Bride after bride was made late by her hairdresser. Bride after bride was completely stressed out because of the mess she knew her hair was looking and bride after bride found that even if it started out looking good her hair soon became a bedraggled, limp mass obscuring her vision. We came across some simply appalling hairdressers that year! And then we photographed a client who hired Kirby! Kirby, we’ve since discovered, was U.K. student hairdresser... [Read the full story]

Harpist

April 30, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Robert Pacey is a superb harpist whom we often meet at weddings and whom we can thoroughly recommend. Oxford educated and former Dean of Harris College, Manchester, Robert also has a hugely impressive record as a professional orchestral musician. His musical repertoire at weddings is vast and we’ve heard him playing everything from light classical to modern – ‘Everything from Elgar to Elton John’ is how he once described it. During the ceremony or as background music at the reception, Robert’s... [Read the full story]
